The Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University, in collaboration with Shar Hospital and Getz Pharma, hosted a National Pharmacy Workshop on Diabetes entitled “Better Patient Care Through Physician and Pharmacist Collaboration” on November 17, 2024. The workshop aimed to enhance diabetes management through teamwork among healthcare professionals, focusing on improving health outcomes, raising awareness about early diagnosis, and effective management strategies.

The event was introduced by Asst. Lecturer, Dr. Shajwan Salar, who highlighted the global burden of diabetes with recent statistics. Asst. Prof Dr. Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees, gave a welcoming speech. Asst. Prof. Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi, President of TIU, highlighted the importance of health awareness and diet for the management of diabetes. Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulsamad Salahuddin, The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, gave an overview of diabetes and its challenges, stressing the importance of ongoing education.

In the first session, Dr. Karzan M. Abdullah, a clinical cardiologist, presented “Type 2 Diabetes Management Is More Than Just HbA1c Control,” followed by Dr. Haider Sabir, a specialist general surgeon, who introduced the basics of diabetes and the significance of early diagnosis. Dr. Dawan, Manager of Getz Pharma, discussed essential information about the company and the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and pharmaceutical industries.

Free blood glucose monitoring tests were provided, and students organized interactive activities and games, creating a lively atmosphere that added a dynamic and engaging element to the day. The workshop concluded with discussions on strengthening teamwork in healthcare, leaving attendees inspired and better equipped to address diabetes care challenges through knowledge sharing, practical collaboration, and innovation.
