This year, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University launched an initiative against drug abuse. The Drug Misuse and Overuse Community Service Project was established by the faculty to raise awareness on drug abuse, and bring students and staff members to work together to prevent drug abuse by youth in our community. This project aims to raise awareness and provide a range of skills, knowledge, and understanding surrounding substance misuse.

On the 16th of February Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University arranged a visit to Zhyar High School. The activity was organized and supervised by Research Assistant Dr. Asia Omed and Mr.Tahir Swar, and coordinated by the Dean of Student’s Representatives at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Third-grade students also participated in this project. The visit was part of the series of activities of the Drug Misuse and Overuse Community Service Project.

Faculty staff members and students were warmly welcomed by the President and staff of Zhyar High School, The event was performed in two separate sessions. Third-grade student volunteers and their supervisor presented a seminar for the 10th ,9th and 12th grades.  The organizer of this activity started by delivering a brief opening about the project. Sezar Mohammed Ahmed and Muhammad Ahmed Qadir, a 3rd-grade pharmacy students talked about antibiotic misuse and overuse in our community. They were followed by Soma Niyaz Mujaheed and Sana Rizgar Karim , who presented the misuse and overuse of analgesics. The third part of the seminar was delivered by Helin Ibrahim Qadir and Hawzhin Ismail Othman, who discussed the danger of smoking and vapes in the young community.

To wrap up the event, the organizer gave a closing speech and thanked the school students and staff members for their hospitality and their interest in this topic. Both school staff and students returned valuable feedback and emphasized the importance of the subject. Students found the seminar beneficial and informative.
