Participation in the Ministry of Higher Education’s Workshop in Duhok

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University participated in a workshop supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop was held under the title of Development of the Education Program of the Pharmaceutical Colleges in Kurdistan Universities. The workshop aimed to further renovate the educational system that is being followed by the colleges in KRG and to develop programs that can be tied with the job market and industry in the future of pharmacy. It also aimed in connecting Kurdistan’s market to the current requirements of global standards.

The workshop was held on the 2nd of March, 2023, in Duhok City. The workshop was held under the supervision Dr. Amanj Abdulla Said, the advisor of the ministry of higher education and scientific research and supervisor of the committee of the development programs of the pharmaceutical colleges in Kurdistan universities as well as the participation of Dr. Dawood Atrushi, the head of Duhok University. The Faculty of Pharmacy of TIU’s Dean, Dr. Vedat Koksal and Head of Faculty, Dr. Esra Bayraktr, attended the workshop along with the attendance of all the stakeholders and the head of the faculties of pharmaceutical universities of Kurdistan at the centre of the Cultural and the Social University of Duhok.

At the beginning of the workshop Dr. Dawood Atrush, the president of Dohuk University, expressed his happiness by hosting the workshop and highlighted the importance of quality education in the program of the Colleges of Pharmacy since pharmacy is connected to the lives of all individuals in the community. Dr. Amanj Abdulla Said shared that the purpose of developing the education program is not mainly to set up one similar educational program in all the pharmacy colleges but so that the Learning Outcome Process is shared in order to promote pharmaceuticals for the public, private and Kurdistan job market as well as the pharmaceutical industry in general. He also added: Due to the rapid advancement of technology in the 21st century and the role of technology in the medical field in general and the private pharmaceutical field, pharmaceutical education programs are needed. Furthermore, pharmacy education programs need to be in parallel with modern world advancement.

The program included three panels. The first panel started with Dr. Sozan Omar Rasul, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Duhok University. The second panel included Dr. Hunar Kamal Omer, Dean of the College of Pharmacy of Hawler Medical University. Towards the end, the third panel included Dr. Twana Muhsin Saleh, the Dean of the College of Medicine at Sulaimaniah University. Each provided their thoughts about the current situation of the education program in the Colleges of Pharmacy and made several recommendations.

In another workshop session, all universities’ deans and heads of the pharmacy faculties shared their opinions and insights on how to work and develop the educational programs and discussed how to include an international education system suitable for pharmacy colleges and connect them to the job market.
