On April 21–22, 2025, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University (TIU) organized its 5th National Tishk Pharmaceutical Conference. The two-day event focused on the theme, “The Role of Kurdish Medicinal Plants in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-Being.” The first day took place at the Dedeman Hotel, and the second day was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy, TIU.

Day 1: Dedeman Hotel

The conference began with a welcoming speech by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Javed, Head of the Pharmacy Department. This was followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. Muhammed Kalar, Representative of the Minister of Higher Education, who highlighted the global significance of herbal plants and their alignment with SDG 3. Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Ozdemir, Vice President of TIU, expressed his appreciation for the faculty’s efforts, while Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulsamad Salahuddin, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, welcomed the audience and provided an overview of the faculty’s accomplishments, including its recent AHPGS accreditation.

The first session was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Subasini Uthirapathy, and featured keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Azeez A. Barzinjy, on “Harnessing Plant Power: A Sustainable Approach to Nanoparticle Synthesis,” and Prof. Dr. Salah Tofik Balaky, who presented “Gene Expression Profiling Using RT-PCR.” The second session was led by Dr. Ahmad Hamdy, with a seminar by Asst. Prof. Dr. Lana Yousif on “Complementary and Alternative Medicine.” The third session, chaired by Dr. Kamaran Javed, featured online talks from Prof. Fatma M. Abdel Bar and Mrs. Sawsan S. Al-Rawi, and a final presentation by Dr. Abdulwahab Jameel on “The Role of Genetic Testing…in Cancer.”

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to sponsors, speakers, organizers, and volunteers. Outstanding Grade 5 pharmacy students were also recognized for their academic achievements.

Day 2: Faculty of Pharmacy, TIU

The second day commenced with a warm welcome from Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulsamad Salahuddin, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, who summarized the first day’s events and reiterated the conference’s commitment to SDG 3. Dr. Marwan, a representative of the Iraqi Syndicate, also extended his gratitude and emphasized the historical significance of traditional herbal medicine.

The first session was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Javed Naim, featuring presentations from Asst. Prof. Dr. Javed Ahamad on “The Role of Kurdish Medicinal Plants…” and Asst. Prof. Dr. Subasini Uthirapathy on “Pomegranate as a Natural Remedy for Gastric Ulcer Prevention.” The second session, chaired by Asst. Lecturer Dr. Shajwan Salar, included seminars by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamaran Javed, Dr. Ahmad Hamdy, and Dr. Soma Majidi.

The final segment of the day was a poster session, where fifth-year pharmacy students showcased their graduation projects and engaged with professionals in the field. The conference concluded with a closing speech by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Javed Naim, encouraging the continuation of conversations and collaborations.
