Drug Misuse and Overuse Community Service Project
This year, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University launched an initiative against drug abuse on 13th February 2022.. The faculty established the Drug Misuse and Overuse Community Service Project to raise awareness of drug abuse and bring students and staff members to work together to prevent drug abuse by youth in our community. This project aims to raise awareness and provide a range of skills, knowledge, and understanding surrounding substance misuse.
This project was organised and supervised by Research Assistant Dr Asia Omed and coordinated by Pharmacy Dean of Student Representative Dr Zeynel Polat and Dr Rozhan Arif. Third-grade students also participated in this project.
This project targeted increasing awareness of drug misuse and overuse and encouraging best practices among the general public. The main intention was to provide a firm foundation and deliver a precise massage on drug misuse and overuse. The project also aimed to educate the public and young people on the danger and consequences of drug misuse and overuse by collaborating with several schools across the city to provide critical educational activities with the participation of volunteer students. This opportunity allowed participating students to develop and enhance their leadership skills and raise their confidence as future health care professionals.
The community service project required various preparations before visiting schools, including project planning, distributing duties organising visits, and collaborating with the schools’ administration—the project comprised visits three different schools where volunteers delivered presentations on drug abuse.
Ultimately, an appreciation ceremony was organised by the Dean of Student’s Representatives, and appreciation certificates were given to organising staff members and students for their cooperation.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University is proud of all students and staff for organising and volunteering in the Drug Misuse and Overuse Project and hopes to see a continuous contribution to community service activities.
