2nd International Pharmacy Workshop on Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) – (IPW -2022)

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2nd International Pharmacy Workshop on Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) – (IPW -2022), to be held on Tuesday, May 18th, 2022. This year’s session will be held in a hybrid online style. The workshop will take place at the conference hall in Tishk International University-Erbil (Hall #302, Education Faculty Building) and will be streamed live online using the ZOOM platform.

The workshop will have two sessions for the scientific events. This event has four keynote speakers from various universities in Malaysia, India, and Saudi Arabia for this workshop.

The workshop will start at 10.00 AM with an opening speech as mentioned in the program. This year we invited very special speakers:

Name of the Speaker:     Dr. Mahendran Sekar        

Job Title of the Speaker: “Current and Future Approached in Drug Development from Natural Products”

Biography (5-10 lines)

Dr. Mahendran Sekar is currently working as an Associate Professor & Head of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department at Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Royal College of Medicine Perak under the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences since 2012. He received “Anugerah Pendidik Cemerlang MARA 2018” during Hari Pendidik MARA 2018. Two of his innovative products are patented in Malaysia. His innovative products secured “Best Innovative Product Award” in Defence, Security and Sustainability Exhibition 2017 (DSS 2017) organized by UPNM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has more than 100 publications including ISI & SCOPUS indexed journals, proceedings, guidelines, and book chapters. He is also a reviewer with a number of scientific journals of International standing.

Name of the Speaker:  Dr. Prof. Balakumar Pitchai           

Job Title of the Speaker: Recent advances in drugs targeting RAAS for the management of cardiovascular disorders

Previously Dr. Balakumar was a Professor of Pharmacology at the College of Pharmacy, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia, and Senior Associate Professor and Head of Pharmacology Unit at the Faculty of Pharmacy, AIMST University, Malaysia. Dr. Balakumar published more than 110 scientific papers in the areas of Cardiovascular, Diabetic and Renal Pharmacology and Toxicology, among others. His scientific papers have been cited more than 3200 times (SCOPUS), and his ‘H Index’ is 34 (SCOPUS). Dr. Balakumar received “Naranjan S. Dhalla Young Scientist Award” in 2007 from the International Society of Heart Research and International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences. Pharmacological Research and Current Molecular Pharmacology. Prof. Balakumar is a ‘Consulting Editor’ in Pharmacological Research, an Elsevier Journal of having 2020 Impact Factor 7.658. He received STAR Award-2015 for Excellence in Overall Academic and Research Performance at AIMST University, Malaysia in 2016. Dr. Balakumar’s name is listed among the World Ranking of Top 2% Scientists, under the Field: Pharmacology & Pharmacy, based on the study done by Stanford University scientists.

Name of the Speaker: Dr. Kumarappan Chidambaram          

Job Title of the Speaker: Animals models for Metabolic syndrome: Recent Advances with a focus on Translational Research

Dr. Kumarappan Chidambaram is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Kumar is involved in teaching of teaching basic and clinical pharmacology for Medical (MBBS Program, KKU, College of Medicine), Pharmacy and other allied medical students within the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. He utilizes active learning techniques, such as Team-Based Learning, Case-Based, and Problem-Based Learning, to enhance the understanding of pharmacology within clinical contexts. He is a member of American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP), American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE) and Quality Assurance Committee of KKU. Dr Kumar has participated in and developed pharmacology curriculum in medicine and pharmacy at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as content for undergraduate and postgraduate professional education. He has published extensively in type2 diabetes mellitus and natural products.  He is the author and co-author of >80 research publications (>1100 citations since 2007, h-index: 18).
