3rd International Pharmacy Workshop on Autistic Spectrum Disorders

On May 30th,2022, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University held the 3rd International Workshop titled “Autistic Spectrum Disorders”. The workshop was held as a part of the annual community service project (Autism Care and Awareness Project) to raise awareness of autism and the daily struggles associated with the disability. 

The workshop’s opening ceremony commenced at 1:30 PM on campus with a welcome speech addressed by Dr Esra Bayrakdar, Head of Department. The welcome was followed by a speech presented by ACAP Supervisor Ms Amani Tahsin, highlighting the activities and events conducted with the help of staff members and volunteer students.

Assistant Prof. Dr Abdulsamad Salahuddin, President of TIU, Assistant Prof. Dr Idris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees, Dr Duran Kala, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, also attended the ceremony. 

The workshop’s keynote speaker was Prof. Dr Azhar Daoud, a Professor and Senior Consultant of Child Neurology with over 30 years of clinical and teaching experience. He focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of children suffering from neurological disorders including epilepsy, autism, cerebral palsy, speech impairment, muscle gait and spasticity diseases, and different metabolic and inherited neurological disorders.

Prof. Dr Azhar Daoud addressed his speech on “Autistic Spectrum Disorders”, describing autism in general and the early indicators parents could notice in their babies. He further discussed the approach to these cases and the guidelines for treating children according to their autism and brain function level. In his speech, Prof. Dr Azhar Daoud also explained mechanisms to prevent worsening conditions of autistic children, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The workshop ended with a closing speech delivered by Dr Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees and Dr Esra Bayrakdar, Head of Department, in which they thanked Dr Azhar for his participation in this workshop and praised his informative presentation.
