3rd National Tishk Pharmaceutical Conference
Tishk International University recently hosted the 3rd National Tishk Pharmaceutical Conference, organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, under the theme of Recent Advances in Cancer Therapy (RACT). The conference was held on April 30th, 2023, at the university’s campus, and brought together experts and professionals from the field of pharmacy to discuss the latest developments and advances in cancer therapy.
The conference host Dr. Sana Sirwan commenced the event by welcoming the guests, followed by the national anthem. The Head of the Department and Chair of the Conference, Dr. Esra Tariq Bayrakdar, gave a small introduction about the event, its aim and theme, followed by Dr. Idris Hadi, the Head of the Board of Trustees at Tishk International University, who welcomed the guests and thanked the organizers.
Dr. Abdulsalamad Salahaddin, the President of Tishk International University, described the importance of such conferences and appreciated the hard work of the organizers. The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Department, Dr. Vedat Koksal, welcomed the guests.
The Minister of Health, His Excellency Dr. Saman Barzinji, also gave a short speech, expressing his excitement about the conference and its theme, as well as the topics. The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, His Excellency Dr. Abdulfatah Abdulrazzaq, also delivered the last introductory speech in which he discussed the potential of the conference and expressed his deep interest in the topics to be presented.
The first session of the conference began with welcoming the first keynote speaker, Dr. Ahmed Khudhair Yassin, a Professor at the College of Medicine at Hawler Medical University and a well-known and respected hemato-oncologist. His speech, titled Success Stories in the Route of Hemato-oncology, discussed past treatment therapies, showing the field’s development throughout the years.
The second keynote speaker, Dr. Luqman Rahman Sulaiman, Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine at Hawler Medical University and an expert in his field of Medical Oncology, gave his presentation under the title of Harnessing the Power of Immunotherapy in Cancer Treatment: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives.
The second session started with a speech delivered by Asist. Prof. Dr. Myasar Alkotaji, the Dean of Ninevah University, in which he also presented his topic titled The Potential Role of the CPP, Tat-LK15, in Enhancing the Anticancer Effect of Doxorubicin. Dr. Myasar highlighted the potential enhancement of doxorubicin, a well-known anticancer drug, through different therapies. The Prof.Dr. Bimlesh Kumar in LPU, India, also gave a very informative presentation titled Pharmacotherapy of Neuropathic Pain using Natural Components: A Multifactorial and Unique Support.
The last session began with Dr. Shokhan Mohammad, who presented on Long Term Survival After Fludarabine, Cyclophosphamide, and Rituximab Treatment in Previously Untreated Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Patients. The 6th speaker, Dr. Saya Salahaldeen, who works at Nanakali Hospital, Erbil, Iraq, delivered her presentation titled Role of Interim PET-CT Scan on Long-Term Follow-Up of Patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Single-Center Study in a Developing Country. The last speaker for the session was Dr. Sharad Visht, an Assistant Professor at Tishk International University, who presented on Anticancer Potential of herbs found in the Kurdistan Region.

The conference concluded with participants visiting the different poster stands, where there were 70 abstracts published in abstract books and 45 research posters and presented their work to the participants. Overall, the conference was a great success, with 150 attendees joining the event. Participants gained valuable insights into the recent advances in cancer therapy and witnessed great discussion on the topics discussed.
