A scientific trip to Halgurd-Sakran National Park, Kurdistan Region was organized for 3rd Grade students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Tishk International University, on 21st October 2021.

The Pharmacognosy trip was coordinated by course lecturers, the Dean of Student’s Representatives, and Faculty Research Assistants. Around 110 Pharmacy students from grade 3 and 10 teaching staff participated in this scientific trip.

The main objective of this trip was to introduce students to the natural habitats of medicinal plants and to familiarize them with the collection methods for medicinal plants. The students were asked to prepare a report on medicinal plants of Halgurd-Sakran National Park, Kurdistan Region, Erbil Iraq.

The Pharmacognosy Trip was accompanied by a local guide. The guide journeyed the students around the impressive nature of “Halgurd-Sakran National Park”. The guide and lecturers (Dr. Omji Porwal and Dr. Javed Ahamad) familiarized students with several medicinal plants regarding their traditional uses, cultivation, collection and also discussed parts of plants used as medicine.

The faculty members and students collected voucher specimens of medicinal plants, herbs for further research and finalized a report of the Pharmacognosy scientific trip.
